Disney has revealed that the updated and enhanced version of the popular Star Tours attraction, dubbed Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, will not open at Disneyland in California until June, leaving the world premiere to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando on May 20.
UPDATE: Disneyland has announced the opening date of Star Tours 2 in California to be June 3.
The opening date will coincide with the first day of Star Wars Weekends 2011 and will feature, at minimum, Star Wars celebrities Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka), though others are still to be announced.
Once aboard Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, guests will climb into a Starspeeder 3000 for an adventure that takes place between the first and second Star Wars trilogies, with C-3PO as the new pilot – all in 3D.
The original Star Tours, which first opened at Walt Disney World in 1989 received a “final flight” party in September 2010, for which Disney invited D23 members and guests to take a last spin aboard the classic version of the attraction.
