Disney’s WOW World of Wonder disc to offer home theater calibration “how to” for consumers and professionals

in Disney, Entertainment, Movies

On November 2, The Walt Disney Studios will be releasing its WOW World of Wonder Disc, a step-by-step visual guide to calibrating and optimizing a high definition (HD) entertainment system. The release is designed to help consumers get the best quality experience from their home theater systems by providing everyone from beginners and enthusiasts to experts and custom installers with the necessary calibration tools to get the job done.

Building on what Goofy began with the 2007 comedy-fillled animated short “How to Hook Up Your Home Theater,” the character will now guide WOW users via an on-screen menu through a series of tests and patterns with the goal of tweaking home video and audio settings to look and sound their best.

World of Wonder features 35 A/V calibration and evaluation tools that cover topics including proper alignment of home theater equipment, calibration tasks for specific monitors, displays, and projectors, a “pixel flipper” to attempt to eliminate “burn-in” and “stuck” pixels, a video encoder stress test, and much more.

In addition to a variety of test patterns and audio sequences, tutorial videos are available on World of Wonder describing topics like “What makes up a picture?”, “What is sound?” and “What is compression?”.

On the official World of Wonder web site, Disney has released a few video clips as well as a PDF download of the full manual that accompanies the WOW World of Wonder disc.

The Disney WOW World of Wonder disc will be available in a number of packaged configurations. The two disc packaging features the WOW instructional A/V calibration and a demonstration disc, which includes clips from popular Disney titles including Toy Story, UP, Bolt and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and an exclusive disc called “VISIONS: Inspired by Nature,” featuring natural and digitally created landscapes with original music scores and ambient sounds.

The Disney WOW World of Wonder standard definition DVD will retail for $29.99 and the Blu-Ray version will cost $34.99 MSRP. Versions containing the bonus disc are $5 more. Other bundles that include an HDMI cable will also be available.
