Today Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced it is closing the 6-year old stage show KaTonga: Musical Tales, with its last performance running on Sept. 6.

The African-inspired KaTonga has been performed more than 10,000 times at the theme park’s Moroccan Palace Theater. On the way replacing KaTonga is the Broadway show Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy, directed by Neil Goldberg.

Busch Gardens describes the new show as being “inspired by nature’s unpredictable creations and brought to life by an international cast of soaring aerialists, spine-bending contortionists, acrobats, musicians and spectacular costumes beyond your wildest imagination.”

Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy has previously been nominated for “Best Costume Design” by the American Theatre Wing. The new show is scheduled to open some time during Winter 2010.
