The Universal Orlando Resort has announced details for the grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Beginning at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 16, a special celebrity preview ceremony will take place within the Wizarding World section of the Islands of Adventure theme park. This event is private and not open to the public, but will be streamed live online for all to view at UniversalOrlando.com/HarryPotterNews. It is scheduled to last 30 minutes, concluding at 10:00 p.m. EDT.

Universal has confirmed that Academy Award-winning composer John Williams will be in attendance, conducting a live orchestra, presumably to play a few recognizable songs from his Harry Potter film scores. Also in attendance will be Harry Potter film stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Michael Gambon (Dumbledore), James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins), and other celebrities.

Universal Orlando will also be sharing updates throughout the event on Twitter.

The official public grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will take place on June 18 at 9 a.m., lasting for around 30 minutes. Huge crowds are expected, so I’d recommend arriving early to see whatever Universal has planned for this public event.

If you can’t make it in person, Universal will be streaming live videos of the public opening online as well.
