At the Disneyland Resort “What’s Next?” presentation on June 11, 2010, Walt Disney Imagineers revealed new artwork, behind-the-scenes video, and details from the upcoming Cars Land addition to the Disney California Adventure theme park.
Imagineer Kathy Mangum was on hand to discuss the theme park addition based on the Disney/Pixar film Cars. The first sneak peek was a look at a computer-generated virtual fly-through of the elaborate downtown Radiator Springs area that will be home to three new rides and plenty of dining and shopping:
The first new attraction to be detailed as part of Cars Land during this presentation was Mater’s Junkyard Jubilee, which will feature wild tow trucks taking guests around a swiveling/swerving track:
Next, Luigi’s Flying Tires will bring back a Disneyland classic attraction in a whole new way. The old “Flying Saucers” are returning as rideable tires. Guests will pass through Luigi’s tire shop and board their own tires and bouncing around. Mangum offered amusing test footage of Imagineers recently riding vehicle mockups for this new attraction:
The biggest attraction to be part of Cars Land will be the E-Ticket ride, Radiator Springs Racers. This part-dark ride, part-thrill ride will bring guests face-to-face with characters throughout the world of Cars, first in a slow-moving tour of familiar scenes, then culminating in a head-to-head race against other guests around tight turns and long stretches. Mangum offered a glimpse behind the construction walls of ongoing track and ride vehicle tests, along with plenty of concept art:
Cars Land is scheduled to open at the Disney California Adventure theme park in 2012.

It seems like it would be a Car’s themed Test Track. It would be cool if they could make the cars go faster then 60mph.
I think the reason the didnt make it go faster was because they wanted to keep the height requirement down so that little fans of the movie cars could ride too. I have no doubt that it will feel like youre going way faster than 60 mph when youre actually on the ride.=)
Did they cut anything from this? It seems that they had a little more to it before.
Looks like it will be absolutely amazing!
thanks so much for sharing these with us. i’d love to go to the cellar!
